Welcome To The Neighborhood

Emrie and I recently got some new neighbors so I decided we'd throw together a "welcome to the neighborhood" package and go introduce ourselves. Earlier this week I had stopped by the movie store and found this popcorn box that looked like the ones you get at the theater, except this one came ready for the microwave. We stuffed it full of candy, pop, and a gift card.

Tonight, as we were walking to their house I asked her why we were doing this. She said, "To make them happy and so that they will give us a gift." After I gained my composure, I explained that she was partially right but that it had nothing to do with getting anything in return. I think she gets it.

Out of the mouth of babes! Children are so honest with their thoughts.

You are an awesome dad Chad. The way you ask her questions also gives you an opportunity to know her as she expresses her sweet little self. Therefore, I believe she will experiene the feeling of importance and freedom to be who she is!!

I know I am a bit serious on this hilarious post. However, I felt the need to give you PRAISES on your fatherhood. Evan is too funny!

Thats what I love about kids.....spontaneity. In your thinking you probably thought what a good "life lesson" this would be for Emrie to show her how to "love her neighbor as herself" and she put a differnt twist on it. But, if you really think about it we all like to give ourselves gifts. May your neighbors continue to be blessed by your life and never doubt that "the Doerr" is always open!

I love it! You are doing in your neighborhood something that is almost a lost art....extending a welcome in a friendly sort of way. Neighbors used to do that sort of thing not to be nosey, but to truly make the newcomers feel part of the neighborhood. Then we passed that off to the professionals thru "Welcome Wagon", and now I am not sure that even exists. How can we know if our neighbors need to know Christ if we don't even know our neighbors. Hey...I preaching to myself. I can count on one hand how many neighbors on my surburban st. I know by name. Makes me realize Jesus must surely be disappointed in my lack of concern for the people around me. I'm confronted with being disappointed in myself and will pray about that. Your neighborhood story also painted a beautiful picture in my mind of a Dad and his little girl living out a life lesson together. Most guys leave that sort of stuff to their wives. Since the Lord didn't give you that option I picture Him smiling at you & Emrie walking the neighborhood together. Brings to mind "Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." Galations 6:9
