Snow Day

Are you kidding! Pendleton County Schools are out and we only got a dusting. What happened to the days where the bus drivers were told to throw some chains on their tires and go pick up the kids for school:)

I think what has happened is years ago when lonnies dad and I were EMT"S and lived in Peachgrove, there was a school bus accident involving ice on the road..Lonnie was in high school at the time..we were on the ambulance( one of them )that took this call..also a bus in route too school got stuck up on Vater/ Lock Road..Since then they have stepped back a little when it comes to sending the buses out ..The main roads get cleaned, its the back ones that don't...

Unfortunately we live in a lawsuit-happy world. Imagine if a bus, a car full of students, or teacher wrecked this morning, people would go nuts. It's kind of a "darned if you do, darned if you don't" kind of thing.

It's also all about money. The school district gets paid a certain amount of money per child per day, so you have a better chance of having good attendance when the weather is better.
What happened to the days when you walked to school and back home up hill both ways :)!

I like snow days.. you can make "snow ice-cream" and
"snow - lemonade"... But I would stay away from the snow-lemonade it leaves a bitter after tast in your mouth.

I can imagine it Jana, in fact, it has already happened here and it had nothing to do with ice or snow...an incompetent driver. I dont blame the school districts being a little too cautious. The life of even one student is worth going an extra day at the end of the year...even though we as teachers will probably be complaining about it in late May.

"Lawsuits!" There must be classes on the internet on "How to Sue Anybody for Anything and Win Big!" What I see, having worked in the medical field many years, are the changes and decisions being made every single day because of the fear of a lawsuit being slapped on an innocent physician. Decisions that cost all of us in $$$$

However, more concerning to me, are the lawsuits against truly innocent parents for "spanking" their own child in a controlled disciplined act. (don't get me started on the flip side of that....the people who blantly get away with child abuse is much more common), a student who is being dragged into court because he wanted to pray at Commencement, a school fighting to keep the 10 Commandments hanging in the hallway, and the list goes on. If the Lord does not come back soon and very soon, we will see more and more of that in the public square. You and I may not be able to mention the name of Jesus in our workplace, or the grocery store line without offending the anti-christ standing near us.

I have this comment made to me quite often by patients at the dr. office where I work...They'll be complaining about how bad they have it and then come off with the line "But it's better than the alternative" (referring to Hell) Oh how I love to quickly reply...."Are you kidding? I know that Heaven is going to be a wonderful place so you better get ready!" I very seldom get more than a blank stare from them. Sad.
