Gotcha Day '07

Today is Emrie's Gotcha Day. Five years ago today we adopted her and she came to live with us. It's been an incredible five years with many ups and downs but overall, I consider myself blessed to have her in my life. She is a treasure from God!

My hope is that tonight, as a family, we can read a few scriptures from the Bible about adoption and how God has adopted us into his family. I also have a book that tries to talk about adoption on a child's level. We've told Emrie from the beginning that she is adopted but of course...at five years old, how much can a child understand.

But then again, how can I, a grown man, fully understand why God would want to adopt me?

That's awesome! I hope that we are one day celebrating a "gotcha day" with one of our own!

I remember wondering months before Emrie arrived home with Chad & Amy what it would be like to "grandparent" an adopted child. We already had been blessed with four grandchildren by our daughter and knew how loving them just seemed natural, afterall, they were an extension of her. But what about an adopted child? All doubt vanished the moment we laid eyes on her. We love her with the same all encompasing love as the others and would lay down our life for any one of them. When you allow Jesus to seed the love it just naturally grows! We are so happy & proud to share the joy of Emrie Elizabeth Doerr's Gotcha Day!

Happy Gotcha Day Emrie! I was blessed to be with your Mommy and Daddy the very moment they laid eyes on you. It will be a sight that will live in my heart as long as I live. The joy that they displayed in anticipation of that moment was incredible. You have brought our families so much joy. I love you from the bottom of the ocean up to God.

Wow! Happy Gotcha Day to both you and Emrie! It doesn't seem like it has been 5 years since that blessed day. Give Emrie hugs and kisses from all of us!

How well I remember that little bundle of joy with the cute grin sitting in her punkin seat in the church parking lot. She was a church baby from the moment she arrived at Antioch. Give her my love.

From someone who is about to celebrate their own anniversary of our "Gotcha Day" I know exactly how you feel. I can't even begin to understand why our wonderful God has chose to bless us so abundtly. I can't praise Him enough. May God continue to bless you Chad; and we pray that your little girl grows to know and love the Lord as much as her dad.

I have always thought that is a great to celebrate an adopted child's addition to your home. Our children are adopted but we were lucky to get them both at birth so we only celebrate their birthdays. But we also told both of them about their adoption and related God adopting us into his family throughout the years. I have found the open and honest communication from the beginning has been the best.

God bless all of your family.

Happy Belated Gotcha Day Emrie and Chad!
I remember all those talks with Amy and you about how excited you both were to get that sweet bundle of joy. Emrie is a gift you will always treasure and I know she will grow up to love the Lord as much as her daddy. She's been through good and horrible in her short 5 years, but with your guidance and her new family's (home and church), she will grow to be an awesome lady that we will all be proud to know.
