The Need For Speed

Kentucky’s governor hit the nail on the head recently when he said, "There is an increasingly large gap between those who have technology and those who do not. Kentucky remains on the wrong side of this digital divide." Can I get an amen?!

If you’ve ever visited Antioch you know that we’re not exactly an urban church. Though we’re located on a state highway, it is still fairly rural. To give you an idea of how backwoods; cable and high speed internet are not even an option. That has left us quite frustrated as we’ve researched our limited options. At this point, our only option is to pay out the wazoo for a satellite provider and then I’m not all that certain of their reliability.

However, I just caught wind that our governor, Ernie Fletcher, has set forth a plan to make high speed internet available for all Kentuckians by 2007 [if he can stay out of jail]. Just the thought of getting an upgrade sets my feet to dancing.

If you’re a Kentuckian and want more information, visit Connect Kentucky. You can see your county’s progress and even submit a plea for help.

I’m out like dial up!

Are you sure you are ready for improved technology Chad? You weren't too excited about it back in college :)

Of course having high speed access to your Bassmaster articles could change your life. :)

Seriously, being from the technological side of the river I hope they bring this good stuff down your way. I would hate to be without it now.

Today I couldn't find an applicable quote or inspirational story...I looked for a good joke making fun of Kentucky, but since I went to college there and live right across the river decided best to let that go...so I leave you with this little joke that brought a small smile to my face...
There was this preacher who was an avid golfer. Every chance he could get, he could be found on the golf course swinging away. It was an obsession. One Sunday was a picture perfect day for golfing. The sun was out, no clouds in the sky, and the temperature was just right.

The preacher was in a quandary as to what to do, and shortly, the urge to play golf overcame him. He called an assistant to tell him that he was sick and could not do church, packed the car up, and drove three hours to a golf course where no one would recognize him. Happily, he began to play the course.

An angel up above was watching the preacher and was quite perturbed. He went to God and said, "Look at the preacher. He should be punished for what he is doing."

God nodded in agreement. The preacher teed up on the first hole. He swung at the ball, and it sailed effortlessly through the air and landed right in the cup three hundred and fifty yards away. A picture perfect hole-in-one. He was amazed and excited.

The angel was a little shocked. He turned to God and said, "Begging Your pardon, but I thought you were going to punish him?!"

God smiled. "Think about it -- who can he tell?"

Matt, I've come a long way since college.

I just had a flash back of Far Side wallpaper!

Sara, thanks for the preacher joke. That is hillarious and will be filed away.
