Way To Crash The Cars

I know I may take heat for this but I have to share my heart.

Cars hit the theaters a couple weeks ago and I thought it would be a clean film I could take my four year old daughter to. After all, I thought, it is a G rated film.

But upon reading the review I was reminded that I'm not in Kansas anymore. The Disney film that is geared for young children contains language that, frankly, I don't want my daughter repeating. It has the audacity to use multiple sexual innuendos and even a few inferences to drug usage, all to get a chuckle from mom and dad.

The reality is, to a lot of our de-sensitized ears these excerpts will go unnoticed but I just can't see exposing my daughter to a two hour movie that will do little to fix her mind on things above. Call me over protective or call me a right wing nutcase but I see her exposed to enough junk in her day to day grind - why would I pay Disney intensify the problem.

Needless to say, I was a little disappointed at the G rating the film received, especially when I saw that Facing The Giants has been rated PG. What's that all about?

Chad,
I commend you for being "over protective" of your daughter. I've been accused of being that way, also. However, I feel as parents, that's our job!! I will have to share this with you. (You will appreciate this!)In Sunday School on Sunday, I said "gosh" in front of Emrie. She immediately told me that was a bad word. I tried to plea my case, but she said she knew what bad words were. So, I apologized to her! (I hope I don't say it again!!) You've been teaching her right!!!!

Hey Chad
It is good that you are protecting Emrie from the language. Just don't let her hang out with me! Or listen to one of my sermons! If I ever have a kid he or she is probably going to cuss like a sailor.

Being a single parent myself, I think tht it is very important to set good boundaries for our kids. I cannot comment on the Disney movie because I haven't seen it, but I think it is wise to monitor what our children watch. My son is two and he repeats everything he sees and hears - I want to protect him as long as I can from the ways of this world...so that when he grows up he live his life like Romans 12:2.

The first thing that popped into my mind was Proverbs 22:6. From my New Century Version..."Train children how to live right, and when they are old, they will not change." You are forming Emrie's values and character in these early years by what you say, do, and allow. Kids are so perceptive, (especially YOURS!!)
