Memory

I ran out of time yesterday, but I have to share my most embarrassing ministry moment to date. I shared a while back about the missing page in my manuscript. Yesterday's blunder was even worse, though fewer people were involved.

Allow me to explain. As our church grows it becomes harder and harder to remember names. I've had this fear for some time that someone will respond to the invitation and I will forget their name. It's actually happened but God has quickly brought it to mind before it became noticeable to them. Well, not Sunday. This spirit filled woman came forward yesterday to place her membership with our church family. She has been coming since Easter and I love her. She always has a smile on her face and she loves to worship! But for the life of me, when she came forward yesterday, I drew a blank! I prayed and I prayed that God would retrieve her name from the depths of my faulty mind. The last thing I wanted to do was admit that I had forgotten her name. How impersonal is that!

Well, just moments before I was to step on stage and introduce her, I swallowed my pride and said, "Can you remind me of your full name?" She gracefully filled in where my mind left off and the morning went on.

Jackie, if you are "An Open Doerr" reader, I'm so sorry! Forgive my memory. We love you and are so glad you're a part of our family.
