The Tithe

This morning I preached on the tithe [the Biblical concept of returning to God the first 10% of our earnings] and never have I had so much fun talking about what is normally sensitive issue. I wanted to share what happened at the conclusion of both of our services; because it was an experience I will never forget.

After my message and a testimony from one of my friends, I led the people into a time of response. I had them close their eyes [which I don't normally do]. I then asked them to lift their hands [which I don't normally do] if they could honestly say they had experienced the abundant blessings of God as a result of the tithe. Upon this request I saw hands fly up across the room...in both services! I prayed for them and thanked God for their faithfulness.

I then felt certain that their was a group of people [I had no idea how large], who after hearing what God's word had to say on the topic, had been convicted and desired to step out in faith and begin honoring Him with their tithe. As I did with the first group, I asked those that desired to make that decision to raise their hands. I expected a couple, but was overwhelmed with emotion when I saw hands fly up around the room...in both services!

To visibly see people from all walks of life making their first step to honoring God with their finances, it was a sight I will never forget. I saw young and old, new Christians and long time, leaders and followers raise their hand and say, "I want to take God at His Word. I want to begin tithing."

What a day!

I can see why there was such an uplifting reaction. Your sermon was dead on the money. Good job on it!

Hey man,
That sounds really cool. Spirit God convicts and leads much better than human effort (or "campaigns" or whatever else we dream up). I'd love to hear the message if you've got it recorded somewhere.
