Readability

I just tested my blog's readability on this site. It says I write at an elementary level. I got to thinkin'. What's that say about me? More importantly, what's that say about you that you seem to enjoy reading it?

Oh well...at least Jeremy won't get hung up on any big words:)

Readability instruments often weight too heavily superficial characteristics like: lengths of sentences, syllable-counts within words, and phrases/clauses within sentences. I visited the site and ran a few pieces through it. The "score" was determined in mere seconds. That suggests that comprehension and clarity are not part of the equation... and those are among the most important reasons why we write: to help explain and to do that explaining efficiently. Skilled editors promote clear and to-the-point writing.

what do they know?

They told me that my blog was high school level. Ran it through twice to see if it just gives you a random score but got the same both times.

In journalism school they always told us to write to the eighth grade level. So I think are right on the mark to get the most bang for your buck as far as sharing you excitecite with most people possible.

Mine said elementary too. I put in mark Driscoll's blog and it said jr high. So that really means we are just one level behind Driscoll.

Hey Chad,
Thanks for the test. My test results scored a High School reading level.

Always remember, you can reach more folks speaking at the elementary level than the masters level. Everyone understands the message.
