Financial Peace

Tonight I set aside an hour to get my personal finances in order. This is a weekly event for me but I kind of enjoy crunching numbers. A few years ago, Amy and I were a bit haphazard with our finances but then we took Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University and our financial lives have never been the same.

I thought I might briefly share Dave's six baby steps that have given me financial peace. May they bless you as they have blessed me.
  1. Save $1,000 for a baby emergency fund
  2. Aggressively pay off all debt [except the house] starting with the smallest amount
  3. Increase your baby emergency fund equal to 3 to 6 months of expenses
  4. Begin pouring 15 percent of your income into retirement plans
  5. Save for children's college
  6. Pay off home early
  7. Build wealth [and give it away]

FPU is the greatest thing since whatever was the greatest thing before sliced bread.

ok Chad and Evan we know how much you love the big boy Dave. And... in all honesty going through FPU at Fairview really changed our outlook on managing money. We had a v-e-r-y long 13 weeks and it was all worth it. We laughed and learned and it all makes sense. I'm just waiting to hear our preacher shout from the pulpit "We're Debt Free". (Stacey conrtibuted too ya know)We have a light at the end of our financial tunnel. Thanks Dave and all of the FPU conselors out there. Keep shouting the message.
