Communicating For A Change

I'm reading a great preaching book right now. It's called "Communicating for a Change" by Andy Stanley. I know my last book review was a Stanley book and believe it or not I do read books by other authors. It's just that his stuff is really good.

This book has forced me to re-think the way I communicate. His challenge lies in identifying one point and building your entire message around that one central theme. He says, and he's probably right, that we are more apt to remember and therefore apply one point that is emphasized over and over throughout a message compared to the traditional three or four point s that we preachers so often like to unload. I guess in hunting terms it's like comparing the difference between shooting a shotgun and locking in a high powered rifle with a scope. One sprays, the other hones in on it's target.

Whether you're a Sunday school teacher or a small group leader; whether you preach to adults or teens, this book is a great read. You may not agree with everything but it will certainly force you to evaluate the way you communicate and that's always a good thing.
